In 1971, two young brothersTed and Paul Yuke, from the province of Saskatchewan, answered the call of God to establish a family church in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. The congregation of Faith Tabernacle in Halifax believed in the brothers vision for a church in Lower Sackville and five families from their congregation became the founding members of the new congregation. Sunday services began in Acadia Hall of Sackville Drive.
Rock Church:
A Church Standing on the Firmest Foundation:
The Rock Christ Jesus.
The name for the new church came from Matthew 16:18 which says, Upon this Rock I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
In 1972, we borrowed $100,000 to build the first church on the Beaverbank Road. In the fall of 1973, the little church which seated 225 people was dedicated to the Glory of God.
As the church grew in numbers, it also grew in the Spirit as new heights in praise and worship were attained. In order to accommodate the tremendous growth that God was bringing to Rock Church, a new five-acre site was purchased on Sackville Drive, the site of the current facilities. Plans were drawn for a 1300 seat sanctuary. The new building began to take shape and members of the congregation of all ages, trades and backgrounds freely gave of their time and talents to see the completion of the building. Following the sale of the little Rock Church on Beaverbank Road, the congregation met for Sunday and mid-week services in three different facilities, while the work on the new building progressed.
On November 30, 1979, the new church building was dedicated to the Glory of God. This was truly a night of praise and adoration to God for providing for our every need. 1979 also saw the launching of the A.S.K. Bible Training Center and the establishment of a Bible School in Southern India, where young men and women are being trained for the ministry.
In 1986, Phase One of our building expansion program was completed debt free! The new facilities allow for an expansion in our Christian Education program and A.S.K. Bible Training Center to expand with daytime classes.
In 2001 we celebrated our 30th anniversary. We can look back at the past and know with all certainty that God was faithful. The future with all assurance is secure! God is a faithful God! His plans for us can always be trusted! That is why we can say with assurance . . ."WE HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN!"
